Mr Chris Goh, started his music knowledge by joining Catholic High School Military band and was assigned the euphonium. When he was 15, he picked up learning saxophone and played both instruments in the band. He joined the National Institute of Education Winds in 1999, playing the saxophone and holding onto different committee roles in the band.
Music has always been an integral part of his life and it is his sincere wish to bring music into the lives of all and to help nature young musicians. He joined the Singapore Armed Forces(SAF) Bands as a saxophone player, where he later became the Principal saxophone of SAF Parade Band B. In 2004, he planned and designed a display formation in which the SAF Band used for the Army Open House. In July 2005, he played with the SAF Central Band at Esplanade Concert Hall for World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles(WASBE) conference in Singapore, which was his last concert with SAF Bands before he completed his National Service.
On the teaching front, Chris has been imparting his extensive music knowledge since his teenage years, coaching various sections in several school bands. He is currently the band director of Ngee Ann Secondary Symphonic Band, Junior Band director of St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School Concert Band and Assistant Band Director of Punggol Primary Concert Band.
Chris holds a Specialist Diploma in Band Directing (Merit) from National Institute of Education / Nanyang Technological University, and a Certificate in Brass Band Instructor Training and Qualifications from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). He is a current concert manager of NIE Winds, and was recently elected as a council member of the Band Directors’ Association Singapore in 2016.
This year, 2017, he was appointed as the Secretary of Band Directors’ Association Singapore.
