Rehearsal approach to “Sunny Island” and “Escape Velocity” by Dr. Leonard Tan

Following the successful demonstration concert for bands by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Leonard Tan will be sharing insights on his rehearsal approach to the 2017 Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation set pieces, “Sunny Island” and “Escape Velocity”.

This forum promises to enrich our preparations in the upcoming SYF AP 2017.

Best Practices: Rehearsing Sunny Island

Following a successful AGM in August 2016 where our members voiced their interest in participating in a structured study group, BDA(S) will embark on a new series entitled: Best Practices.

The first of this series will explore the 2017 SYF Arts Presentation set piece, Sunny Island. Members will share their perspectives and practices in the following categories:

1) Score Analysis (Thematic material, Form/Phrasing, Harmonic analysis).
2) Relating ‘Sunny Island’ to the folk songs.
3) Preparation and Rehearsal Technique.

Discussion will be facilitated by Mr. Alvin Seville.

2nd January 2017 (Monday)
