Joost started playing oboe in the municipality band of his native town in The Netherlands as a youth and has been actively performing since. During his years in the national service, he served as an oboe player in the wind orchestra, Johan Willem Friso Kapel.
He has been residing in South East Asia upon his graduation from the Sweelinck Conservatory of Music in Amsterdam and has worked as an oboist in several orchestras in the region, namely, Singapore Symphony Orchestra (6 years), Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (2 years), Kuala Lumpur Symphony Orchestra (1 year) and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (16 years).
Besides being a professional oboist, Joost also worked as a lecturer at the Institut Seni Indonesia (Jogyakarta) and a project officer for the ECA-centre in Singapore, as well as a conductor to several school bands in Singapore, Victoria Junior College, the Teacher Band of the ECA-centre and the Singapore Wind Symphony.
Currently, Joost is the Head of Winds at NAFA School of Music where he lectures oboe, conducting and coaches several wind ensembles and the NAFA Wind Orchestra.
During these years he has built up an extensive and tasteful library of wind music containing commissioned scores from SE Asian composers as well as Western classical compositions.
